The standard 2.0-liter comes with a five-speed manual transmission. A continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) is standard on the Mainstreet and Uptown. The Heat and Rush are available with CVT with manually controlled simulated stepped gears. The 2.0-liter engine delivers EPA estimates of 24 mpg city/32 mpg highway and 27 mpg combined with the manual transmission, and 23/27/24 mpg with the CVT. The 2.4-liter engine is equally good in the fuel efficiency department. It returns EPA ratings of 23 mpg city/29 mpg highway and 25 mpg combined for manual-transmission-equipped models, and 22/27/24 for versions fitted with the CVT.

The Dodge Caliber 2012 comes strapped with plenty of safety features. Standard safety features include airbags, active front head restraints and antilock brakes.
